About

Hello! I’m Janet, a psychologist, writer, and yoga fan. I am not an expert on yoga, but I love learning from people who are and this blog is a place where I can share their wisdom and insight. You’ll also find my opinions here.

My primary interests are the health benefits of yoga and the ways in which yoga fixes (or at least improves) so many physical and emotional challenges. Western medicine is increasingly discovering the health benefits of yoga for conditions such as stress, depression, chronic pain, obesity, and many others.

Yoga is a Sanskrit word with several meanings, one of which is “union.” Many practitioners of yoga view the goal of yoga as integration of body, mind, and soul. The American Yoga Association (AYA) says that yoga is at least 5000 years old and is built on a system of breathing, exercise, and meditation. The AYA asserts that a daily yoga practice enhances mental clarity and physical health.

The AYA states that yoga is not a religion and does not interfere with the religious beliefs of any person who practices yoga. i agree with the AYA’s opinion that yoga can add to the quality of life of people from any religious background and faith.
